In the present study, to investigate the compatibility of wet capacitors systematically, silicone rubber and benzyl toluene (M/DBT), as the most widely used gasket material and the impregnation fluid of the capacitor were selected.
If no impregnating agent is used, the process is catalyzed through autohydrolysis. Acetic acid and uronic acids released from hemicellulose, and formic and levulinic acids resulting from sugar degradation (Fig. 1) contribute to acidification, and can inhibit downstream biochemical processes.
According to the statistics, 94.1% of sealing failures can lead to oil leakage in power capacitors [ 2 ]. The leakage may cause the degradation of internal insulation performance, such as partial discharge and even dielectric breakdown. In serious cases, it may cause severe accidents of fire and explosion.
